And We gave (clear) warning to the
Children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief on the
earth and be elated with
mighty arrogance (and twice would they be
punished)!
When the first of the warnings came to pass
We sent against you Our servants given to terrible warfare: They entered
the very
inmost parts of your homes; and it was a warning
(completely) fulfilled.
(This possibly could be a reference to the
destruction of Jerusalem and the burning of the Jewish Temple built by
King Solomon, by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar's agent Nebuzaradan
in around 607 B.C.E. Jerusalem's king and the most of her people
were exiled to Babylon and the treasures were plundered).
Then did We grant you the Return as against
them: We gave you increase in resources and sons and made you the more
numerous in man-power.
If you did well, you did well for yourselves;
if you did evil, (you did it) against yourselves. So when the second of
the warnings
came to pass, (We permitted your enemies)
to disfigure your faces, and to enter your Temple as they had entered it
before, and to visit with destruction all that fell into their power.
(This possibly could be a reference to the
conquest of Jerusalem by the Roman General Pompey in 63 B.C.E. Nearly,
12,000 Jews died in this encounter. And/or, this could be a reference to
the conquest of Jerusalem by the Roman General Titus in 70 C.E. Historians
record that around 1,100,000 Jews died and 97,000 were taken as captives.
Many of them were sent to Egypt and sold as slaves. God increased His punishment
for the repeated offense!)
It may be that your Lord may (yet) show Mercy
unto you; but if you revert (to your sins), We shall revert (to Our punishments):
and We have made Hell a prison for those who reject (all Faith).
Verily this Qur'an doth guide to that which
is most right (or stable), and giveth the glad tidings to the Believers
who work deeds
of righteousness, that they shall have a magnificent
reward.
We took the Covenant of the Children
of Israel and sent them Apostles. Every time there came to them an Apostle
with what they themselves desired not -- some (of these) they called impostors,
and some they slay. They thought there would be no trial (or punishment);
so they became blind and deaf: Yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them, yet
again many of them became blind and deaf.
But Allah sees well all that they do.
Surah An-Nahl (The Bee) Chapter 16, Verse
111
One the Day, every soul will come up
struggling for itself, and every soul will be recompensed (repaid
fully) for all its actions,
and none will be unjustly dealt with.
Surah An-Naml (The Ants) Chapter 27:
Verses 69 to 82
Say: "Go ye through the earth and see what
has been the end of those guilty (of sin)." But grieve not over them nor
distress thyself because of their plots. They also say: "When will this
promise (come to pass)? (Say) if ye are truthful." Say: "It may be that
some of the events which ye wish to hasten on may
be (close) in your pursuit!" But verily thy
Lord is full of grace to mankind: yet most of them are ungrateful. And
verily thy Lord knoweth all that their hearts do hide, as well as all that
they reveal. Nor is there aught of the Unseen
in heaven or earth, but is (recorded) in a clear record.
Verily this Qur'an doth explain to the Children
of Israel most of the matters in which
they disagree. And it certainly is a Guide and Mercy to
those who believe. Verily thy Lord
will decide between them by His Decree:
and He is Exalted in Might all-Knowing. So put thy trust in Allah: for
thou art on (the Path of) manifest Truth. Truly thou canst not cause the
Dead to listen nor canst thou cause the Deaf to hear the call, (especially)
when they turn back in retreat. Nor canst thou be a guide to the Blind,
(to prevent them) from straying; only those wilt thou get to listen who
believe in Our Signs, and they will bow in Islam. And when the Word is
fulfilled against them (the unjust), We shall
produce (bring
forth) from the earth a beast to (face)
them: he will speak to them for that (because) mankind did not believe
with assurance in our Signs.
