A facsimile of the title cover of a Ginan Book
Publishers:
THE ISMAILIA ASSOCIATION FOR BHARAT, Bombay, India
Year of publication 1969

Pir is an exclusive title given by an Imam of the time to a Da'i {missionary} to summon people. Pir is "Hujjatul Imam".
Ginans mean Devotional Songs. Ginans of Pirs are next to

the Farmans (official pronouncements) of the Ismaili Imams.

A facsimile of page number 14 - Ginan number 13.
This Ginan is for recitation in the early morning.
Sub-title: The Early Morning Recitation No. 6.
Verses under review are from 10 to 18.

The Translation:

Verse No. 10:  "Weep and Wail" the Hindus and Muslims.

The theme of the Ginan is everyone will "wail and weep" except the ISMAILIS. This verse professes;
MUSLIMS  will "wail and weep". In other words; "ISMAILIS" are "NOT MUSLIMS".
Verse No. 11:  "Weep and Wail" the Bhramin and Fortune-tellers
who read the Scriptures and the Books.

Verse No. 12:  "Weep and Wail" the Mullahs and Kazis (Judges)
                            who recite the Quran.

Verse No. 13:  "Weep and Wail" the living Sages who sit in
                            the Monasteries and Crematories.

Verse No. 14:  "Weep and Wail" the Sunnis, "Liars" - "Dogs", who
do not accept the "True Shah {King} (Living Imam)".

Verse No. 15:  All those rejecters who do not recognize
the face (identity) of the Pir ("Weep and Wail").

Verse No. 16:  "Weep and Wail" the worldly (materialistic) people,
                          all these "weep".

Verse No. 17:  Only the one that do not "weep" are those who
                          embrace the Satgur (True Imam).

Verse No. 18:  "Brave Aly is Wali" - admit that Truth.
(Here Karim Aga Khan represents 49th Brave Aly)

Ismailis have copies of this Ginan Book in their homes. I have one in my library. A few Ismailis can recite this Ginan from their memories.

Note:
1.   One can see the reasons behind the restrictions for the entrance to the Ismaili Jamatkhanas (prayer halls). They are open for Ismailis only.
2.   Ismailis often claim their practices are of higher Esoteric (Batiniyat) Tariqah and as such non-Ismailis who have not reached that level of Marifa will misunderstand them if allowed to visit the Jamatkhanas.
3.  Ismailis proudly claim; We are the peace loving community and we do not criticize any other Tariqah of Islam, any other religion or race. Why is it that we have been the targets of criticism by non-Ismailis?
Is it not a hypocrisy to say one thing behind the close doors -- under the disguise of "higher knowledge", and put up a facade on the outside?

Who was "Pir Sadruddin"?

Sadr Shah (whom Ismailis call "Pir Sadruddin") was a SUNNI Sheikh and a Haji. (read 'The Sect of Imam Shah in Gujrat' by Professor W. Ivanow.) He was one of the disciples of the famous Sheikh Shah Shams of Multan, Punjab. Shah Shams was an Afghani SUNNI Muslim. (One can see the Sajrah - (the genealogical chart) that is in his Mausoleum in Multan). Haji Sadr Shah used to write the verses of the Qur'an and sell them for a living. (Records the famous history book 'Noorum-Mubin' published by the Ismailis in 1936. Now withdrawn from the circulation). Sadr Shah came to Gujrat and converted Hindus into SUNNI Khojahs. His ORIGINAL Ginans promoted reading of the Qur'an and keeping of the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Here is the translation of one such verse from his Original Ginan:

Read the Qur'an, understand the Books, then you will visualize the path of Nabi [Muhammad]. If [you] comprehend the mouth [sayings] of Ahmed [Mohammad], the pathway to invisible [Allah] will manifest itself.
Published in a Ginan Book entitled Booj Niranjan.

Transliteration of the above verse:
Pade Qur'an Kitaba booje, to tuje rah Nabi ki sooje
Jo mukh Ahmed kera booje, rah Niranjan ape sooje

Ginans composed after the death of Sadr Shah

The Verses Number 10 to 18 (translated earlier) are from one of the Phony Ginans that were composed recently by anonymous authors and attributed to the so called "PIRS of the Ismailis". These Pirs were neither "Ismailis" nor these Phony Ginans written by them. Please read the excerpt from the book by Professor W. Ivanow, a Russian scholar reputed for his research on the Ismaili history and literature:

"A great majority of gnans are the creation of annonymous authors. Apparently quite a considerable proportion of those attributed to the authorship of Great Pirs probably have nothing to do with them, and were composed at a much later date. This particularly applies to the gnans about various Pirs, their miracles, their sayings."
'Ismaili Literature' Tehran University Press, 1963, p. 174

Note: Majority of the Phony Ginans were "manufactured" to establish the Divine Authority of the "Ismaili Imams".

Why Present a "Phony Ginan"?

1. This "Book of Ginan" has been printed recently in 1969 and published officially by The Ismailia Association for India (an Institution created and funded by the Aga Khans, for the purpose of promoting and  propagating the "Agakhani Ismailism").

2.  The Ginans from this "Official Publication" are being recited in the Ismaili Jamatkhanas (prayer halls) with full faith and belief that they are composed by their so called PIRS that converted their ancestors.

3.  The Ismaili Missionaries do uphold the above Ginan in their Sermons with a Hadith that speaks of the Ummah being split into seventy-three Sects after the passing away of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and ALL Sects will go astray, except ONE. (that Sect is Ismailism). The above is a Dhai'f (weak) Hadith. The knowledge of the future is with ALLAH ALONE. (read Qur'an Verses 67: 26 and 10:20).

4.  All Ginans (Phony or Otherwise), will continue to be recited by this generation and the future generations of the Ismailis yet to be born, as per the Holy Farmans (Sacred Religious Pronouncements) made by Karim Aga Khan (texts of the Farmans are reproduced below).
No one but ONLY Karim Aga Khan himself can abolish this Tradition.

Documented proofs that the ancestors of the Agakhani Ismailis were truly Sunni Muslims...

Aga Khan the First came to India from Iran. His ancestors in Iran were staunch ITHANA'ASHRIS. The followers who came with him to India were also Ithna'Ashris and their descendants living in Bombay and Poona today, practice Ithna'Ashri faith. Aga Khan I proudly records in his own biography that he was an Inthna'Ashri Sufi and a Murid of Mast 'Ali Shah. (read the autobiography 'Ibrat-afza, originally written by him Persian. Later translated in Gujrati and published from Bombay. Also published from Tehran by Husayn Kuhi Kirmani, 1325/1946).

Aga Khan I, acknowledged that until 1861 the converted Khojahs were Sunni Muslims. Justice Sir Joseph Arnould wrote in his judgment; "In this paper [Exhibit No. 19 submitted by the Aga Khan] Aga Khan expresses his desire to bring the Khojahs to confirm to the practices "of the Imamujah creed of holy ancestors". (read the judgment document by Justice Sir Joseph Arnould in the famous "The Khojah Case" recorded in The Bombay High Court Reporter, Volume 12, 1866, pp. 323-363).

Aga Khan I, with the help of British Government was successful in converting these SUNNI KHOJAHS into ITHNA'ASHRI KHOJAHS.
He acquired the community properties and replaced the SUNNI IMAMS with the SHIAH MULLAHS (some were his own relatives).

The parents of Aga Khan the Third were also Ithna'Ashris. Justice Russell records in his judgment; "There can be no doubt that the mother of defendant 1 [Aga Khan III] and some of his relatives are Asnasharis. He himself frankly admitted that he [Aga Khan III] had been present on an occasion when the Ziarat to the 3rd, 8th and the 12th Imams [of the Asnasharis]... " ('The Bombay Law Reporter'  O.C.J. 1908, Volume 11, p. 425, in the Civil Suit No. 729 of 1905 before the High Court of Bombay, also known as the famous Haji Bibi Case).

Immediately after the above Haji Bibi Case, in 1906 Aga Khan III, dismissedthe traditional Jurisprudent Committees of the Khojahs. These age old "Khojah Joostis" were replaced by the "Shi'ah Imami Ismaili Councils". Members of the Khojah Joostis were elected by the Jamaat. This democratic process was abolished by Aga Khan III, and the members of the Ismailia Councils were personally appointed by him. Four years later Aga Khan promulgated a legally drafted "Shiah Imami Ismaili Constitution" ordained under his seal and signature. Thus the Khojahs lost their original identity of Conversion, given by Sadr Shah to the "Enlightened Hindus" and they became the "Imami Ismailis" governed by the Legal Constitution. Blinded by the material prosperity of their Aga Khan and the Community, Ismailis now began "looking down" upon the original nomenclature   of the Jamaat from the days when they were not so rich and educated. The article 1.1 of the most recent Ismaili Constitution Ordained by Karim Aga Khan on 11 July, 1998 records:

Mawlana Hazar Imam [Karim Aga Khan] has inherent right and absolute and unfettered power and authority over and in respect of all religious and Jamat matters of the Ismailis.
One can very well say; those who have chosen to submit themselves to the absolute and unfettered power and authority of Karim Aga Khan and be governed by the Ordained Constitution of 1998, are ISMAILIS. Whereas, those who have chosen to submit themselves to the absolute and unfettered power and authority of Allah (s.w.t.) and be governed by Allah's Eternal Message for mankind (al-Qur'an), are MUSLIMS.

IMPORTANT FARMANS... made by the Late Aga Khan
(Farmans are the binding pronouncements, directions, rulings or orders that are made or given by the Imam of the Agakhani Ismailis)

"Pir Sadruddin composed the Ginans, in Indian languages, which are the extracts from the Qur'an." page 85
"Pir Sadruddin has given you, in his Ginans, the tafseer (interpretations) of the Qur'an-e-Shariff." page 91
           'Kalame Imame Mobin', 1950 Edition.
Note: After reading the above Farman one has but to admit that the Ginan under review, which has been printed by The Ismailis Association for India, is a "manufactured Ginan" in the name of "Pir Sadruddin" to establish the Superiority of the so called "Batiniyat of the Agakhani Ismailism" over the "Sunni Tariqah of Islam". To say otherwise, would be to admit; the above Farman is ERRONEOUS.

"Pir Sadruddin has guided you to the Right Path. If you leave that, and follow the path of the Moguls {Shiah Ithna'ashrism} and the Arabs {Sunnism} then you will be lost. Arabs are like donkeys. What will they teach you? They themselves do not know anything, then what will they teach you? Moguls seek alms in every country. What will they teach you? If you follow their paths, then you too will become donkeys." This Farman was made on August 20, 1899 in Zanzibar (now Tanzania), East Africa. Published in the Khojki secretive script in 'Bahere Rehmat' pages 30/31.
The inserts within the brackets {...} are mine.
IMPORTANT FARMANS... made by Karim Aga Khan
"I was particularly happy to-day to see that all my spiritual children of East Pakistan and in this Jamat in particular, how well you know your Ginan and I feel that unless we are able to continue this wonderful tradition which is a burden and a duty upon the Ismailia Association in particular, to teach the younger spiritual children their Ginans, I feel that we will lose some of our past which is most important to us and must be kept throughout our lives and lives of the spiritual children, who are yet to be born."
The above Farman was at a special Darbar. On Monday, October 17th, 1960 at Sultanabad, Dacca, East Pakistan (now, Bangladesh).

"Many times, I have recommended to my spiritual children that they should remember Ginans, that they should understand the meaning of these Ginans and that they should carry these meanings in their hearts.
It is most important that my spiritual children from wherever they may come should, through the ages and from generation to generation, hold to these tradition which is so special, so unique and so important to my jamat."
The above Farman made at a special  'Mahfil-e-Ginan'.
On Wednesday, December the 16th, 1964
at the Aga Khan Gymkhana, Karachi, Pakistan.

The Glorious Eternal Al- Furqan...

When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" - Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know. When they meet those who believe: They say: "We believe;" But when they are alone with their evil ones, They say: "We are really with you, we (were) only jesting." Allah will throw back their mockery on them and give them rope in their trespasses; so they will wander like blind ones (to and fro). These are they who have bartered guidance for error: but their traffic is profitless and they have lost true direction.
                       Surah Baqaraa (2): 13 to 16

A personal note to Karim Aga Khan:

   On October 8, 1986, during your interview on the Canadian National Television program 'Man Alive' , the TV Interviewer Mr. Roy Bonnisteel inquired of you;
"Is this a kind of divine authority?" and you responded:

"The Prophet himself never claimed any miracle of any sort. The only miracle which you have in Islam is the Qur'an".
Having glorified the Glorious Qur'an in public, it should not be out of place for YOU to officially acknowledge the ancestral transgressions against the Glorious Qur'an, make a formal apology on their behalf and withdraw without delay all the Farmans and Ginans that are anti-Islamic, anti-Qur'an, anti-Muslims and are racists. Your own Constitution does not permit anyone, but you ALONE, to put them out of the circulation and STOP their recitations. Furthermore,  DISCONTINUE the "Forgiving of the SINS" of your "Spiritual Children" (followers) and STOP acting as a 'Partner of Allah' before them which (Taubah Na'ooz Billah), you are NOT. ("And who can forgive sins, except Allah?" the Glorious Qur'an Chapter 3: Verse 135).YOUR decision as an Imam can bring the Agakhani Ismailis closer to the Ummah (Brotherhood of Islam) and repair the damaged bridges OR be declared  as NON-MUSLIMS based upon the TEXT of quoted Ginan which distinguished Ismailis from Muslims.

Comments and Responses:

No. 1: If there was a drop of Hadhrat Ali's BLOOD in Aga Khan the Third, would he have said: "Arabs are like Donkeys...  and what will they teach you"? I think, he had never studied the life of Hadhrat Ali or of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or of the Companions.
Did they not come from the tribe of Quraysh - the Arabs of Arabia and teach Islam to the mankind? How can one follow someone who is so ignorant?

No. 2: Why make an Appeal to Karim Aga Khan for the withdrawal of his "community literature" when the government law is explicit about the ban on the circulation of "hate literature" in North America?
(I would suggest a Muslim Attorney or CAIR to elucidate the legal proceedings involved and the prospects for Complainant's success.)

No. 3: There is no law restricting the written word in the United States. "Hate Literature" (which I feel the ginans are not BTW) is protected by the US Constitution. The thing actionable in the US is if hate speech results in death or injury. And we all know that the Ismaili community is not prone to violence against Arabs or Sunni's (tho the reverse is not the case).  {The comment by a pro Agakhani}

No. 4: Just read the under mentioned text from the Memoirs of the one who said to his followers "Arabs are like donkeys. What will they teach you?", and then judge yourself; Which is the LIE and who is the LIAR?

With the decline of the Roman Empire and the break-up of the great and elaborate system of civilization which Roman Law and administration has sustained for so many centuries, the Dark Ages enfolded Europe. In the seventh century of the Christian ear there was a rapid and brilliant new flowering of humanity's capacity and desire for adventure and discovery in the realms of both spirit and intellect. That flowering began in Arabia; its origin and impetus were given to it by my Holy ancestor, the Prophet Mohammed, and we know it by the name of Islam. From Arabia the tide of its influence flowed swiftly and strongly to North Africa and thence to Spain." 'The Memoirs of Aga Khan'  pp 169/70.
